Project Greenhouse Day 3

Plastic sheeting Fitted to the Roof.

After I got the plastic in place I started placing small Facsia boards on it to help retain the plastic.

As you can see I was not on the end of the camera.

Donna decided that I should feature in at least one picture out of the 3 she snapped of me. I thought this one was best. These little boards will help retain the plastic as the plastic would probably tear in a wind with just the staples.

The roof has most of the flashings on now.

I managed to put the plastic on in one sheet to take in both the end and the small front panel. Note the colour of the door to the right 😉

Same picture as above just a little closer.

Nothing really to say about this one.

Both sides all fitted with plastic now.

Door fitted & straps on roof

Well that’s it done, I still need to do some shelving inside and run the hose pipe along the roof (it’s actually electric cable inside it). I’m going to pop along to B&Q tomorrow as they have 8′ deck boards on sale at £2.98 each to make the shelving. I have already put some supports in for the main shelf on the back wall its going to be 18″ deep then there should be room for 3 more at 12″ deep on the back wall above that. I think 9 boards will do the trick.

Here is my workshop.

Anyway all I have really shown you over the past few days is where I have been working on the greenhouse so I popped upstairs so I could get a wider angle on my happy snapper camera.

Quick walk through of what you’re seeing. On the right of the door where the apex roof is, that’s my main working area. It has my lathe, bandsaw and all my other tools. To the left in the pent roofed side I use mainly as a dry store for wood. I hope later in the year to get the kids involved so will clear a space for them to make handmade paper using my fine sawdust. I’m trying to reduce my carbon footprint as much as possible so this will help and will give the kids a little income if they sell their paper.

Well that’s the greenhouse story done for now, I’m pretty sure once I get things growing I will have more to blog about.

I hope you enjoyed this little trip over the past few days.

Drew

Looks great now it’s complete, it might be in for a test this coming week if the snow that is forecast arrives 🙂 Looking forward to seeing what you grow in it 🙂

  4. It’s looking really good, Drew 🙂

    It’s looking good!

  6. Mrs A. says:

Looking good. Love the quirky shape of your workshop. Hand made paper from saw dust sounds intriguing. hugs Mrs A.

    • Thanks 🙂 Yes the workshop is a little quirky lol. Considering 90% of it is recycled id does sort of resemble a shed. The handmade paper is something we have been toying with for a while. I thought the kids may be interested in doing it and maybe earning them a few quid at the same time.

  7. Caroline says:

Looks good if my DH had done that would have been down as soon as he turned his back

  8. Jill says:

It looks good Drew – I like the fact that the first thing in there is a chair. Nice idea. Hope you have a good week.

  9. Thanks Jill 🙂 yes the chair was there as an aid to height even at over 6′ tall i still need that added extra at times.

It looks really good, cant wait to see what you will be growing inside it! Making handmade paper sounds like so much fun, am sure you and your children will have a great time.

    • Thank you, 🙂 I cant wait to grow some things in it, I bought a load of veggie seeds today and Donna already has some flowers started of in the mini greenhouse.

  11. Susie says:

What an excellent job! My husband does things like this (or did, where we are I think they would have a fit if we did any real building, sadly). My adult sons learned to be very handy too and I think it is good for kids to learn to build and do things with their hands.
I also love the idea of using sawdust in paper (I used to make paper but haven’t in a few years). I have never tried that, but it sounds intriguing. I hope you post something on that.

    • Thanks 🙂 I read somewhere you could make paper out of sawdust as long as its fine or if its bigger it needs blending, hmm i dont think Donna will go as far as letting me blend sawdust/shavings but the bandsaw produces the finest sawdust so I will give it a try later in the year once i have collected enough. If it works then i will get the kids involved. I only get away with the workshop as I have very understanding neigbours and they understand how hard it is to get a F/T job. If I was in a new built estate I think I would get a letter or 2

  12. Jan says:

It’s looking good, love the red colour, bright and cheery even on a dull day.

    Jan 🙂

Drew that is lovely! I wish you were my neighbour and would nip over the fence and do one for me! The making paper sounds really interesting too – would like to see some pictures of that when your kids do it. Thank you for commenting on my blog. Mich 🙂

    • Thanks Mich 🙂 My neighbours do love me as I always help them out when they need a little help. I actually keep a little flower bed tidy for one of them.

What a super little greenhouse – you are very clever! Now to fill it with lots of lovely plants.

    • Thank you very much 🙂

We have quitea lot of seeds planted already, now it’s the waiting that drives me nuts. Patience isnt my strong point I have been out looking each day and so far I have cress and raddish showing signs of doing something. Only day 3 of having them planted though.
