Perth wins Diamond Jubilee contest to be named seventh Scottish city

I honestly didn’t know that Perth was not a city, I have lived there and on the outskirts of Perth when I was a lad. I guess just because of knowing it’s historical status as the capital of Scotland you assume that it was in fact a city, that and the fact everyone calls it the “Fair City”. When it lost its city status in 1975 I must have had other things on my 5 year old mind and have been ignorant to the fact ever since.

Well done to perth for getting the title of City back.

BBC News – Perth wins Diamond Jubilee contest to be named seventh Scottish city.

“The City and Royal Burgh of Perth was the capital of Scotland from the 9th Century until 1437, and then officially the second city of Scotland until 1975.”

“Even although city status was summarily removed when local government was reorganised, Perth has continued to be known as the ‘Fair City’. Full restoration of its ancient dignity is long overdue.”
